Day 1!

My first day today as a Fortune Magazine intern went pretty well. I talked to my sponsor on the phone to talk about the list of tasks she sent me that we could accomplish over the course of the month. The list included 1) writing some blurbs for her newsletter 2) doing research for a diversity assessment project she is doing 3) sit in on interviews she's doing for a feature story 4) transcribing interviews 5) figuring out who I want to interview/what my own project will be. We talked on the phone about a possible project for me and we came up with a possible story about the Lower East Side Girl's club, a foundation she just attended a fundraiser for. And what's even more amazing is that she is trying to set up an interview with my favorite actress, Dianna Agron, who is associated with the foundation and who was in attendance at the same fundraiser as my sponsor. First Day of May Project - Pretty terrible

Today, I started volunteering at the Annie Malone Children and Family Service Center. Even though my mom had warned me about the location, I didn't realize quite how intimidating the area was until I got here. I drove in circles around the building before parking because I realized there was no parking lot and that I would have to park on the street, and I was honestly a little afraid about walking to the building by myself. When I got inside, I waited over an hour before my contact person came, texting my friends on my phone and reading my book to try to pass the time. After she arrived, she came in and told me she would be right back - she just had to set down her stuff, but she was excited because she had so much to do. She did not come back for three hours. She finally gave me the task of retyping some documents, but it only took 30 mins and I had nothing to do but to answer the phone that rang sporadically besides that.
